The art week in the Northland starts out with the new film Caravaggio at the Zinema in downtown Duluth. The Italian painter was known for his command of light and dramatic realism. The film promises to be an extensive look at the work and mysteries of the artist. More info and tickets can be found on the Zinema website.
Art opportunities keep cropping up, and there seems to be something for everybody. The Forging Community has regular classes at the Armory Annex. Linnea Borealis is teaching watercolor and drawing classes at the Duluth Children's Museum. There are also art opportunities with Shannon's Stained Glassery, Wild State Cider, and several local libraries.
If you keep your eyes open, there's always something new to discover in the art world. Recently, Annie Dugan was introduced to the work of a local artist for the first time. Currently, the work of Ginger Juel is on display at Aura Eye at the Enger Lofts in Lincoln Park. "It was what I needed to see," says Dugan. "Color, warmth, exuberance, slightly abstracted floral pieces that just give us that sense of life. Certainly something that we need in the rainy, foggy depths of January. "
You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
