"I've always loved Ghostbusters," says Matt Rasmussen of the Twin Ports Ghostbusters. As a youth, Rasmussen went to a Halloween parade and saw the Ecto-1 which led to an introduction to the Minnesota Ghostbusters. "That was the greatest day of my life; becoming an official Ghostbuster."
Around the globe, there are communities represented by Ghostbusters groups. The Twin Ports Ghostbusters use their energy and appeal to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House. You can find the various members of the Twin Ports Ghostbusters this month at Boo at the Zoo (Lake Superior Zoo) on October 11th and at the Spooktacular Parade in Superior on October 25th.
Members are fully equipped with movie-accurate wardrobe, "functioning" proton packs, and typically arrive in the Ecto-218 (the Northland version of the Ecto-1). It's taken time to procure and finetune props and to get their hands on a vehicle. "Jeremy [another Ghostbuster] had to go to Canada to get it," says Rasmussen about obtaining their Ghostbusters vehicle. "It's served us well ever since."
More information about the group's mission and future events can be found on the Twin Ports Ghostbusters website.
Beyond busting ghosts, Rasmussen also masquerades as The King of Halloween. He can be seen on various television specials, in short films, and he has a movie premiering at Zeitgeist on October 16th at 7pm.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
