In Duluth, ballet is thriving. The Minnesota Ballet is celebrating its 60th anniversary and has a full season to highlight their craft.
Events begin with the annual Celebrity Dance Challenge fundraiser on Thursday, October 9th, a tradition for the Minnesota Ballet that has been happening for nearly two decades. Social hour begins at 5:30pm with the performance in the Depot Theatre beginning at 7pm.
The first full-scale production of the 2025-26 season is Giselle, a tale of tragedy, love, and ghostly happenings in the woods. "Giselle is the pinnacle of romantic ballet," says Karl von Rabenau, Artistic Executive Director of the Minnesota Ballet. "The wonderful thing about this story is it's a tale about the greatest gift that we as humans have to offer each other, which is forgiveness." Giselle will be performed at the Marshall Performing Arts Center at UMD on Friday, October 24th at 7pm, and Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th at 3pm.
Additional productions this season include The Nutcracker in December, Sleeping Beauty in March, and a 60th Anniversary Retrospective in April. Tickets and more information about the upcoming season can be found on the Minnesota Ballet website or by calling the box office at 218-733-7570.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
