Back Tracks: Three Music Questions with Denise Winkelman

Person with long blond hair, wearing black, holds a stage mic

Originally from the small northern Minnesota town of Northome, comedian Denise Winkelman is now L.A.-based. Her stand-up comedy special Bougie on a Budget debuts on August 19th on various streaming platforms. More information about the special and Denise can be found on her website.

Before comedy took hold, and even before her pro-wresting career (throughout which she harnessed the persona of a mad scientist), Denise grew up in a country music-focused household which led to her very country first album purchase. Her first concert was a long road trip to and from the DECC arena in Duluth. And for guilty pleasure songs, Denise's list is long, but there's one tune that's maybe more pain than pleasure. "I like to punish myself, I'm very masochistic."
