For soprano Jennifer Lien, the process of getting her solo vocal recital from concept to stage was a combination of vision and support. To wrap-up a tour of the state of Minnesota, Jennifer will be performing mOthertongue: Lived Experience in Asian America at the Mitchell Auditorium on the College of St. Scholastica campus at noon on Tuesday, March 25th and at 7:30pm on March 28th. The performance is comprised of three new song cycles by Asian American composers. But the project won't stop here - she's off to Cincinati next. More information about Jennifer and the upcoming performances of mOthertongue can be found on her website.
When it comes to music history, Jennifer's first album deviated from what her peers were gravitating to at the time. Her first concert was of a Miami-based band, though it was experienced in her home country of Singapore. And her guilty pleasure song takes us to a much more northern corner of the globe - as well as back to childhood. "When I was a little kid, after lights-out, I would get out of bed and mime these music videos."
