Poet and performer, Henry Kneiszel, is in love with the concept of migration, and what better bird to symbolize migration than the common Canada Goose. In their new book It's All Too Much I'm Ready to Become a Canada Goose, Kneiszel fuses comedy, tragedy and a little bit of absurdity into a collection of poems that meditate on themes of society and technology.
"To some extent it's just about grappling with how strange and surreal everything is," says Kneiszel. They are also a member of a performance group called The Three Ring Goose Circus, who performed at the Homegrown Music Festival this past spring.
Kneiszel believes that humor is a great tool to explore complicated ideas. They doubled down on the humor at a recent book release party by reciting poems from inside a dunk tank while the audience took turns sending Kneiszel plunging into water.
You can find It's All Too Much I'm Ready to Become a Canada Goose at Alt Creative on 4th Street and at Wussow's Concert Cafe. Kneiszel will also be posting new locations to pick up the book on Instagram (@friendly.dirt.pile).
