Community Connection: Tuning Up with the UMD Athletic Bands

For Jacob Hammond, student president of athletic bands at UMD, Homecoming means that the marching and pep band season is ramping up.

The UMD Athletic Band has been a student run organization for the past three years, which not only creates unity and comradery among its members, but also attracts a lot of students who aren't music majors. "They just love to play," says Hammond. This season, Hammond can be seen playing the trumpet in the band.

The majority of the band's focus is in support of the sports teams, but they also branch out into the community. Most recently, the pep band played in a tunnel for the Northshore Inline Marathon. The band's final event of the season will be the Christmas City of the North Parade on November 22.

You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
