Where's Art: Crossing Borders

The Northland stretches its borders this week to include an event born from local artists.

Alison Aune and Wendy Savage have moved their exhibition from the Nordic Center in Duluth to Vesterheim in Decorah, Iowa. Leading with Our Hearts includes art stemming from Nordic and Ojibwe traditions. The exhibit explores how these art forms are connected to each other and how they are evolving in the contemporary art world.

This Thursday at the Kruk Gallery on the University of Wisconsin Superior campus, Tim Cleary presents sculptures focused on the human body. "They're incredibly visceral and powerful," says Annie Dugan of Cleary's work. "It hits you in your gut." Mike McGuire, also with work in the Kruk, uses clay to offset the visceral with a touch of whimsy. Kim Borst rounds out the exhibit with a series of photography.

And finally, back to the state of Minnesota. This week, Duluth Pottery is presenting Four of a Kind, a presentation by several artists who have come together to highlight print work. "A lot of them integrate the landscapes of our Twin Ports," says Dugan. "It's the best party in town."

You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
