In Perennial Ceremony: Lessons and Gifts from a Dakota Garden, author Teresa Peterson takes readers on a year-long journey through the garden, highlighting the recipes that are inspired by each season's produce, and touching on issues and connections that originate from the earth.
"It puts things in perspective," says Peterson about spending time in her garden. In her youth, Peterson never thought she'd find joy in gardening, but after becoming a parent, she gravitated toward the offerings that the practice provides. While the initial benefits of nutritious food and fresh air are apparent, Peterson also lists spiritual health, connectivity with life, and a strong sense of seasonal ceremony as reasons for always returning to the garden. "Being out in all of those spaces has really been a part of that ceremonial life."
Peterson will be visiting Drury Lane Books in Grand Marais this Saturday, August 10th from 6-7:30pm. Perennial Ceremony can also be purchased at independent bookstores and online through the University of Minnesota Press website.
