Stemming from the annual National Night Out event, Family Freedom Center and Zeitgeist are hosting Hillside Night Out at the Farm on Tuesday, August 6th from 5-8pm at the Freedom Farm located at 500 E 10th St. in Duluth. The event is a community gathering with food, music and more.
"Freedom Farms is right on 6th Avenue East," says Jacob Bell, Executive Director for Family Freedom Center. "For the Hillside Neighborhood as a whole, 6th Avenue East kind of divides the Hillside." Despite the busy road creating a physical divide, last year's gathering drew roughly 300 people. This year, Bell is expecting that number to double.
One particular highlight at the gathering is youths involved in the START Program. "We're gonna have a lot of entrepreneurs out there," says Cashmere Hagbourne, the Director of Business Development for Family Freedom Center. The START Program helps youths with entrepreneurial endeavors. "We're gonna have some kids who designed their own nails, kids who have gained skills in braiding... things they've manufactured themselves, which they're actually going to be selling at this event."
