Since 2016, local curious minds have been meeting monthly for scientific presentations and conversation. Café Scientifique ("Café Sci" for short) is held on the first Thursday of each month, highlighting a different scientist and topic with each meeting.
The creation of Café Sci was in part a response to the increasing number of people harboring distrust for science. "It actually felt like there was a little bit of hostility, sort of a loss of faith in expertise," says Nate Pollesch, co-founder of Café Sci.
Each month, Café Sci offers opportunities for members of the community to gather together and ask questions all while learning from local experts from a wide range of studies. Tonight's presentation is on the topic of Urban Archaeology. The presentation by Dr. Emma Verstraete will begin at 6pm at Dovetail Cafe in Duluth with questions and discussion to follow. "Archaeology's a new topic for me personally," says Pollesch. "I'm looking forward to it."

You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
