Finn Fest is coming to Duluth this weekend. Along with talks about culture, climate, peace and more, the event also highlights several art forms including textiles.
Local artist Kirsten Aune will present her contemporary Scandinavian clothing designs from 12-1pm on Friday, July 26th at the DECC. "The way Kirsten understands pattern is just remarkable," says Annie Dugan. "She is distilling joy into her fabric."
The following day from 1-2pm, Finn Fest-goers can see "Unweaving: An Artist's Journey" presented by Tia (Salmela) Keobounpheng. Now living and working out of North Minneapolis, Keobounpheng has roots in the Iron Range and Duluth. Her journey has led her to Finland, tracing family history and visiting Sápmi villages.
Several other artists will also be highlighted. More info about Finn Fest events can be found online.
This weekend is also the Woman-Made Art and Gift Fair happening at Peace Church on Saturday, July 27th from 10am-3pm. The fair highlights the work of 25 area women. "This is the fifteenth year they've been doing it," says Dugan. Crafts include jewelry, books, pottery, cards, glass, and sewn items.
You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
