This weekend, Zeitgeist Arts presents Land of Stories, a shadow puppet experience with music that aims to tell an all-too-often forgotten element of our region's history.
The event utilizes Thomas D. Peacock’s The Wolf’s Trail and Sharon Doolittle Shuck’s Grandfather’s Blood Memories and Unbroken Spirit, as well as a great number of shadow puppets, nine puppet designers, and four puppeteers to shine a light on the history of Indian boarding schools. "This is a shadow history," says Zeitgeist Community Development Coordinator Thomlin Swan about the importance of telling the story through this format. "This is a history steeped in shadow."
All-ages performances are at 6pm on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th. Live music by flutist Michael Laughing Fox Charette will precede the opening night performance on the 17th. The Saturday night show will include ASL interpretation. Also on Saturday is a 1pm children's matinee show that includes a demonstration of the puppetry.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
