With Valentine's Day approaching, maybe your mind is on love. “Art is a huge part of how we express that love," says Annie Dugan who also has an ear to the ground for the many art events that are happening in the coming week.
This week, the Whole foods Coop in Denfeld is offering a host of samples and cap off the week with an event on Saturday in collaboration with the Duluth Art Institute from 3-4 pm. The DAI will have paper and other materials for people to stop in and create something for that special someone.
Afterwards, starting at 4pm is a special unveiling of a piece from artist Carolyn Olson. The Coop bought the artwork that celebrates the farmer’s market. “It tells the story of how we connect through food,” says Dugan. The artist will be present as well.
Also on Saturday, the third annual Northland Black Business Showcase will be taking place at the Depot. The event is put on by many black business owners and artists. The showcase is an opportunity to highlight what is offered by the community. The Showcase runs from 1-4pm.
Into Saturday evening, folks can attend the BIPOC Makers Market at the Bent Paddle taproom. The event goes from 6-9pm and includes Rose From The Rough, Cheesecake & Company, and Howard’s Que. Also at the event is artist Aonehc Aonehc. “They create these amazing beaded works,” says Dugan. “Absolutely stunning.”
