Joy and tears were both a part of the experience for author Staci Lola Drouillard in writing the 2022 release Seven Aunts published by the University of Minnesota Press.
Drouillard's book focuses on seven of her aunts "holding home and family together." The stories also explore some undefined (until now) concepts and tropes regarding the female experience; terms such as "mothersistering" and "chronic femininity" will be foreign at first glance, but conceptually familiar to readers.
