Radio Gallery 12-08-2010: Paula Brandel

This year's Arrowhead Biennial began on November 4th, 2010 and will be featured through February 6th, 2011 at the Duluth Art Institute located at 2229 West 2nd Street. This week Radio Gallery speaks with Paula Brandel, Executive Director of the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and this year's juror for the exhibition.

Arrowhead Regional Biennial is an exhibit that provides the community with a snapshot of the art created locally. It showcases the work of more then 40 of the most exciting artists in the upper Midwest, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, Iowa, Michigan, and Ontario, and Canada.There is a wide variety of work at the exhibition, many with a theme featuring the landscape and lakes in the region. Brandel shares with Radio Gallery the scope of the exhibit, the selection process, and the work presented in the exhibition. Former Program Director, Maija Jenson teaches journalism in the Department of Communication at UMD and was a part of KUMD 2008-2019. She hosted a weekly arts program "Radio Gallery." She shares a lifetime of public radio listening, degrees in journalism and art and 20 years of public radio experience with KFAI, WHA, WSUM and KUMD.
