Radio Gallery 08-16-2010: Mayumi Amada

Mayumi Amada is an artist whose art is being exhibited at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Her show called "Kuon: Eternal Flow of Time" started Friday July 16, 2010 and goes until Sunday, September 26, 2010. She speaks with Radio Gallery about the concept within her art, focusing on the concept of time and views on female roles.

Radio Gallery 08-16-2010: Mayumi Amada

This week Radio Gallery speaks with Amada who is being featured at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Her exhibit called "Kuon: Eternal Flow of Time" is a free exhibit that will be on display until Sunday, September 26, 2010. "Kuon" is the Japanese word for the Buddhist concept of time, which is one theme that is projected within the art that Amada is exhibiting. Amada has a Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education from Tsukuba University in Japan, and has received her M.F.A from the University of Minnesota in 2006. She uses materials such as doilies, plastic bottles, acrylic tubing, wire, steel rods, washers, thread, and silk to create beautiful and thoughtful pieces of art. Amada does installation work, fashion designing, and sculpting. Her passion for her work and art as a whole can be seen in each piece of work that she has made.

Former Program Director, Maija Jenson teaches journalism in the Department of Communication at UMD and was a part of KUMD 2008-2019. She hosted a weekly arts program "Radio Gallery." She shares a lifetime of public radio listening, degrees in journalism and art and 20 years of public radio experience with KFAI, WHA, WSUM and KUMD.
