Live from Studio A: Douglas Wood

Two smiling men stand in front of a grey wall that says The North in blue letters. The o in North is stylized to look like a compass.

Douglas Wood (l) and Steve Borgstrom (r)

A celebrated author, musician, and naturalist, Douglas Wood has found a way to incorporate all of his passions into his life. We focused on his music when he joined us in the studio on November 7, 2025, with his longtime friend and musical collaborator Steve Borgstrom. They performed some songs and we found out more about Wood's life, including his early years growing up in Iowa and what led him to Minnesota. Before he won acclaim for books including Old Turtle, Wood was a musician, teaching himself guitar and writing songs from a young age. After taking a break from performing music to focus on his writing career, he realized he could combine music and storytelling into his performances, and he's continued to do just that in addition to leading trips to his beloved wilderness.
