Storm recovery continues across the area, with power being restored to more areas, including UMD. KUMD is now back on the air, and the Rolling Thunder Reunion show will go on at the Weber Music Hall tonight as planned.
Mayor Larson will be holding a press conference with representatives from Minnesota Power and St. Louis County at 10 this morning for an update on the storm recovery efforts.
As of early Friday afternoon, Minnesota Powerreported that they had restored power to 19,000 of the 46,000 customers affected at the height of the storm, with 26,000 customers still without power. Most customers in areas outside of Duluth, including Cloquet, were expected to have power restored by the end of Friday. The company announced that reinforcements from Missouri were arriving Friday afternoon to assist Minnesota Power crews.
The City of Duluth continues to offer a free tree debris drop off site from 8am-6pm through Sunday, July 24 at the former Police firing range on Rice Lake Road, located across from Marshall School. "The City will not accept any items that are non-tree parts from the storm damage. No household items or garbage will be accepted." The YMCA will continue to offer wi-fi, showers, and air conditioned space to the public today.
Great Lakes Aquarium is offering a free charging station from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm today. There's no charge for entrance to the lobby charging station or the Aquarium parking lot; just mention to the parking attendant that you are using the charging station.
Meanwhile, although it won't be as hot today, with highs in the low 80s, more storms are on the way; the National Weather Service has issue a flash flood watch for parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin:
