Dan Wilson Interview

A man seen from the waist up looking to his right as he plays a guitar. The background is out of focus but looks like a homey living room with a painting hung on the brick wall wall, with part of a bookshelf and a mantel with bottles on it also visible.

This Minnesota native is known for his work in bands including Trip Shakespeare and Semisonic. He's gone on to become a Grammy-winning songwriter who's collaborated with Adele, Taylor Swift, Chris Stapleton, the Chicks, and many others. The North's Christine Dean talked with Wilson about his career trajectory, how he found his way into songwriting, what it was like co-writing with one of his early musical influences, and where he keeps the four Grammys that he's won to date. He also talked about his most recent project, good night, los angeles, which features short piano meditations named after Los Angeles streets and is accompanied by colorful animations featuring mushrooms native to California. Wilson will be performing at Sacred Heart Music Center in Duluth on October 16, 2025.
