Happy Homegrown 2021!

Today kicks off the 23rd annual Duluth Homegrown Music Festival. After having to cancel last year's festival due to COVID-19, the Homegrown committee took the intervening year to plan for a virtual festival, while welcoming unofficial live events as vaccines and warm weather are making them a more comfortable option for some.

Your best bet for keeping up on the Homegrown schedule as it evolves is to check the schedule page at duluthhomegrown.org. Performances will be livestreamed on Homegrown's web page and posted on the festival's YouTube channel.

Today's virtual events include:

Noon:  Children's Music Showcase

6pm:  Mayor's Reception

7pm: MN Music Summit Livestream featuring Afrogeode, Superior Siren, and Cory Coffman

As always, KUMD will have daily Homegrown Live from Studio A session from local artists, two hours of Homegrown content on The Local on Wednesday, and we'll share daily blog posts covering all the action. Find all of our Homegrown coverage at KUMD.org.

Last year's Homegrown MVP had to be Kala Moria, who whipped together a Homegrown scavenger hunt that lifted the spirits of participants and those just following along on Facebook. She's organized the hunt again this year, and it's not too late to sign up on the Facebook event page.

While Homegrown isn't officially hosting any live performances, they are encouraging others to put them on during the week.

Local venue 2104 has a full schedule of livestreamed performances all week long. Tonight's schedule:

6pm Kaylee Matuszak

7pm Bill Flannagan

8pm Sugar on the Roof

Earthrider Brewery / Cedar Lounge Tap Room  has a whole slate of shows, dubbed "Starfire Unofficial Birthday Bash" (Homegrown started as a birthday party Scott "Starfire" Lunt threw for himself) starting on Wednesday.

A special pop-up art piece was announced on Facebook for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evenings from 9-11pm:

Looking Up From Below is an audio visual installation reminding us of the people, places, and activities that make living up North great. Come check out the Zenith Bookstore wall in West Duluth transform into a projected video mural created by Tom Moriarty and Daniel Benoit. Tune in to 91.7fm and listen to local music while you watch the far out undersea videos and animations. And remember to look up!

Stay tuned to KUMD, 103.3fm all week for Homegrown updates and performances, and follow along at kumd.org.
