The numbers are in, and for three straight days new rainfall records were recorded. Between November 2-4 the Northland got more rain than is typically expected. The totals also pushed the annual total over average, but that doesn't mean we can consider ourselves out of "drought" status.
Even in these later days of autumn, there are still some new migrants showing up. The first redpoll was spotted at Hawk Ridge on October 30th. And plenty of animals are gearing up for hibernation - or at least semi-hibernation.
Also keep an eye open for the fungi that has expanded due to the hydrating rain. One particularly slimy variety is known as Witch's Butter.
You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
