We're about to turn the page from summer to autumn, and the changing season brings many opportunities to bask in nature's splendor.
Hawk Ridge is as busy as ever with birds being counted in the thousands, and even butterflies being tracked in the hundreds. Beyond the avion world, frogs are active and snakes are migrating too.
With the summer season fading, now is the time to get out into fields and linger among the goldenrod (Larry Weber recommends Jay Cooke State Park). And for those who can't wait for fall colors, the wait is over - at least for some initial colors. Reds in particular are starting to pop here and there in the Northland.
