As we enter into the second half of April, Larry can't help but think of how previous months have taken on different personalities from one half to the other. "I have often said that the first half of the month and the second half of the month are different," says Larry Weber. "We saw that in March." Could the rest of April involve snow? Larry's not prepared to make that predication.
On the other hand, some of the spring migrants seem to be very predictable. For the past three years now (according to his journal) loons have shown up on exactly April 13th. Warblers, sapsuckers, and other birds also seem to be arriving in the Northland like they've had it blocked off on their calendars for quite some time.
You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
