Backyard Almanac: Warm Days (and Cold Days) Ahead

The weekend ahead looks like it'll offer some sunshine and some rain - conditions that could eliminate a lot of the ground snow. But does that mean we're actually through with winter weather? Larry Weber doesn't think so. "We're not going to be done with the snow," says Larry. "It's probably not over."

Whatever the weather decides to do, lots of the birds have already made up their minds and are heading north. The red-tailed hawk is showing up in stronger numbers, ousting the Bald eagle as the most spotted raptor. Trumpeter swans and a growing number of songbirds are also on the rise.

And when it comes to flying creatures, it might be worthwhile to keep an eye open for butterflies as well.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
