The first Thursday of every month, the Duluth Folk School plays host to Café Scientifique, a free gathering of curious minds to learn about and discuss scientific and technological topics.
"Once a month we invite different experts and folks from around town to come and share the things they're passionate about," says Nate Pollesch, co-founder of Café Scientifique. Topics range widely at Café Sci events. Recent discussions have included SCUBA diving, conservation politics in Botswana, and a former group of FDA employees known as 'The Poison Squad'. "[Topics are] really all over the place and we try to keep it that way."
This Thursday, the focus for Café Sci will be on Environmental Leadership. To help kick of a month of environmental events in the city, the organization invited a handful of leaders from the community to a panel discussion. Representatives from Ecolibrium3, the Great Lakes Aquarium, Harbor City International School, and more will be present. "We'll get a chance to get to know these folks, get to know the organizations they're representing, and then have an opportunity to learn how folks in the community can plug into these different efforts," says Pollesch.
The event this Thursday, April 2nd starts at 6pm. Café Scientifique is free to attend, and more information can be found on their website which also has links to their social media pages.
You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
