The Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota Duluth is once again coordinating the Our Climate Futures Conference. This year's focus is on Cultivating Sustainable Food Systems and will be happening on March 26th and 27th on the UMD campus and at Zeitgeist in downtown Duluth.
"This is our third conference," says Becca Arends, Program Coordinator with the Institute on the Environment. "Each topic is always climate related and usually relevant to some issues we're currently facing." This year's focus on sustainable food systems has specific relevance to Duluth and work that is happening in the community.
On Thursday, the conference takes place at UMD with most of the focus on workshops and presentations about food waste, solutions, and food sovereignty. The keynote speaker, celebrity chef Ed Porter, will speak in the morning about work that he is doing in his community.
On Friday, the conference shifts to Zeitgeist for two documentaries. One of the films will highlight Porter's work, the other will focus on local work by Aparna Katre. A panel discussion will follow the screenings.
The Our Climate Futures Conference is free to attend, but attendees are asked to register. For more information about the conference and to register, visit the UMD Institute on the Environment website.
You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
