For three years now, Wisconsin Sea Grant and the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve have been open to project ideas to help shoreline communities through the Enduring Lake Superior Communities Program.
"It's an opportunity for local decisionmakers who want to work on resilience goals of their choice," says Natalie Chin, Outreach Specialist with Wisconsin Sea Grant. "We partner with you over the course of a year to help you advance those goals." A need for this program arose from extreme weather events, like severe storms and floods. "Extreme weather in particular is having significant impacts on northern Wisconsin communities."
Past projects have included documenting road maintenance and developing emergency preparedness for communities. "It really depends on what communities want to work on," says Chin. "We just really support them through the course of the program." The program is geared toward teams of 2-4 from city, county and tribal decisionmakers.
The application process is open until April 10th. More information can be found on the Enduring Lake Superior Communities website.
You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
