"This week could be a pretty good one," says Bob King about possible aurora sightings. Sunspots are showing the appropriate signs for aurora activity, and one particular coronal hole is unleashing particles out into space. If you want to be kept up on the likelihood of northern lights, consider getting an app for your phone. Bob recommends "My Aurora Forecast & Alerts" which can be found via a simple internet search.

The waxing moon will be making its way back to the evening sky and will buddy up with Jupiter on January 30th. The two brightest objects in the sky will be right next to each other that night.

And if you're looking to dive further into the world of astronomy, the Dark Sky, Star Bright Festival is happening in Bayfield, Wisconsin through January 25th. You can learn more about the festival online.

You can hear Astro Bob's Backyard Astronomy every other Tuesday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
