Recently, area residents have started gathering on the third Tuesday of each month for drinks and conversation. The environmentally focused meetings are a second incarnation of Twin Ports Green Drinks.
"The history of Green Drinks as a social movement is part of a broader global initiative," says Brett Cease. "It actually started way back in 1989 at a pub in London that's still having it monthly." Since that time, Green Drinks has expanded globally and includes over 400 chapters in the United States. "The hope really isn't even to drive a specific initiate as it is to provide a common space for people that have shared interests across the environmental, climate, green sectors. You don't even have to work in that field."
"I've been really excited to hear about... the different jobs that are going on in our city," says Shawna Weaver. "We have folks here who work remotely and worked somewhere in the sustainability sector, and I would have no idea that their company exists, that they're here in Duluth, and this has been a really great opportunity to network with people that we otherwise wouldn't run into."
"It was really just effervescent conversation coming into the first Green Drinks I attended," says Emma Pardini. "It's a little bit show and tell, a little bit community, a little bit professional networking." After the first few gatherings, the group added an 'On Tap Speaker' component to give the event a different casual focus.
Twin Ports Green Drinks meets at 4pm on the third Tuesday of every month. The next gathering begins at 4pm on Tuesday, December 16th at Bent Paddle Brewing in Duluth.
You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
