Sometimes gardening is a battle.
With earwigs and leafhoppers showing up in area gardens, it's time to ready the ramparts with hardy - and natural - defensive measures. To aid against the spread of Aster Yellow (a disease that will kill plants) Tom Kasper suggests utilizing diatomaceous earth. This fine powder was once seashells, but when ground up, it takes a somewhat medieval and very effective approach to ridding gardens of these pests.
Precautions should be taken when applying. Face masks might be necessary, and reapplication might also be required to most effectively win the day.
Battle on, gardener.
