Backyard Almanac: Lots to See Through the Leafless Trees

For the Northland, signs of the transitional season between Autumn and Winter (known to some as AutWin) are starting to become more apparent. The majority of the leaves have fallen and views through the woods are much more open.

The headline news about October is the lack of precipitation. As of October 24th, only a third of an inch had fallen, which is over two inches below normal. Snowfall is also underperforming. At this point in the month, the area has typically seen at least a few flurries, but so far there has been none.

The positive side of the dry weather is the inviting nature of the outdoors. Dry trails mean easy hiking and idyllic, sunny afternoons to enjoy migrating birds, leaf color, and the occasional sight of a cheek-engorged chipmunk.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
