Finland and Minnesota have no shortage of similar traits. The climate is similar, the landscape of forest and lakes is almost identical, and the respective communities and governments are both aiming for a greener future.
One of the events at this year's Finn Fest is the presentation "Carbon Neutral Future for Finland and Minnesota" happening at 10:30am on Saturday, July 27th at the DECC. The event will feature a panel of several local names including Senator Jennifer McEwen, Julie Pierce from Minnesota Power, and Rolf Weberg from the University of Minnesota Duluth, as well as remarks from Pekka Haavisto, a renowned Finnish politician. "He is actually a member of the Green Party and was the first Green Party member to have a cabinet level position in any government," says Erik Brown, Finn Fest board member. "He's a very well-known figure in Finnish politics."
More information about the "Carbon Neutral Future for Finland and Minnesota" presentation and all other events happening as part of Finn Fest can be found online on the Finn Fest website.
You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
