"The UMD Sustainability Portal is designed to be as inclusive as possible around the things that are necessary to actually achieve sustainability," says Julie Etterson, Director of the Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota Duluth. The UMD Sustainability Portal highlights the connectivity between environmental health and various other aspects of quality living and a productive society. "We need to be conscious of social justice, people need a good education, healthcare, etc."
The UMD Sustainability Portal works, not only as a means to convey messages of connecting ideas, but also to connect people with each other and to guide students on a pertinent educational path. This fall, there will be an informational session for grad students. "We have plans during the Fall Grad Student Orientation to host an informational session," says Jinny Alexander, Program Coordinator for the Institute on the Environment. "I think grad students in particular could benefit from some of the information that's present in the Sustainability Portal to see what types of sustainability related projects faculty are working on." The Institute on the Environment also hosts events. Announcements about regular annual events are forthcoming.
