Climate change is altering the way we live, and for poets, it's impacting the way they write.
Jess Morgan is a local poet, the author of Too Many Hats, and the president of the Duluth Poetry chapter of the League of Minnesota Poets. "It really helps to really sit down and pause with the moment," says Morgan of poetry. As it pertains to climate change, Morgan sees both a coping strategy as well as a way forward. "Whenever you're working with poetry you're working with communication too, so you might be able to spread awareness or offer a specific solution even if it's a small one."
Morgan is currently focusing on a grant to support a project connecting poetry to the sounds of nature. The goals for the project include getting people outside and inspiring conversation. There are also hopes that it will be "a celebration of what we have right now." You can learn more about Jess Morgan and their projects on their website.
