The lazy days of summer are upon us and things are getting quieter.

Larry Weber notes that many of the birds have lessened or even ceased their singing. Some of the decrease in birdsongs can be attributed to early migrants; a few birds are already flying south.

Other things to enjoy in the silence: butterflies, spiders, and late blooming basswoods. When night falls, turn your attention to the northwest for your best chance to take in the quiet spectacle of the aurora borealis.

Luke Moravec is the host for Northland Morning on The North 103.3. He’s also a local actor, musician and writer. He loves puzzles, riddles and fun mysteries.
