Two University visits and a trip to the Renaissance Festival make up this week's art scene.
The Kruk Gallery at the University of Wisconsin Superior is opening their first exhibit of the academic year. Sasha Howell has been making a splash in the local fashion scene for many years with fashion shows and costuming theatrical productions. Now operating the clothing business Rebel Threads, Sasha continues to assist in fashion needs. Howell's solo exhibition Rebel Spectacle will be on display from September 24th through November 5th.
At the Tweed Museum of Art at UMD, prints by St. Paul-based Julia Buffalohead are on display. "She does these really interesting pieces," says Annie Dugan. "She uses animal characters that have this anthropomorphized sense of self... there are these whole narratives told in one specific print." The work of Buffalohead will be on display through next May.
If you're heading south to the Renaissance Festival, you might just come across a Northland artist. Ironworker Ben Fisher-Merritt will be on-site making art. He uses discarded metal to repurpose and make knives, art pieces and more.
