For author and illustrator Chris Monroe, the idea for a monkey wearing a tool belt occurred while working at Marshall Hardware in the Lakeside area of Duluth. With Bob the Builder standing out as the only youth-oriented representative in the world of construction, a dynamic monkey named Chico Bon Bon was introduced to the world through Monroe's unique imagery and storytelling. You can learn more about Chris Monroe's art and books on her studio website.
On the music side of things, Chris's first albums included a spooky album of haunted sounds and one by a classic singer. Her first concert was a show that all of the cool kids attended. And her guilty pleasure song is two-songs-in-one. "It's this gothic funeral dirge that sort of ramps up into this keyboard arena rock."
