With the holidays come holiday lights. And, yes, there's Bentleyville, but Annie Dugan walks from the well-beaten path through the snow to highlight some of the other light displays in town.
Weird? Whacky? Wonderful? All good adjective choices when describing Boubville. The alternative holiday light show on 4th street in Duluth's hillside is in its fourth year of celebrating the season with avant garde art installations, cosmic lighting displays, and a variety of performers. The main events for this year's Boubville happen on the evenings of December 11th-13th.
The Lake Superior Zoo has also been getting in on the holiday fun. The Zoo opens their doors for an after-hours holiday light display on December 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th from 5-7:30pm. Along with decorative strands of lights illuminating the grounds, visitors will also see large-scale inflatables of some favorite animals.
The Duluth Public Library isn't decked out with more lights than usual, but they are celebrating in their own way with Craftmas. At the Mount Royale branch, patrons can stop by during the "Twelve Days of Craftmas" for a grab-and-go craft project.
And for a sidestep away from holiday celebrations, Prøve Gallery is currently showing It Costs More to Be Poor, a new exhibit by Carla Hamilton and Stacie Renné. The exhibit, which focuses on themes of economic disparity and differences, is on display during regular gallery hours now through January 24th, 2026.
You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
