"I just remember... sitting through those first few presentations and my brain feeling like I was really engaged but also like I wanted to be part of the dialogue," recalls Tate Haglund-Pagel, who will be attending this Thursday's Nerd Nite Spooktacular as a first-time host alongside Clay Helberg.
"It's such a wide variety of stuff you get to see," added Helberg. Nerd Nite topics range from hot takes on visual culture to intellectual dives into science and more. The evening is filled with passionate people presenting on various topics, from the niche to the universal.
This week's special will feature some spooky tunes along with three engaging presentations about creating effective haunted house attractions, race in American horror movies, and the 1966 Don Knott's film, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken.
Nerd Nite takes place at The Depot in Studio 4 at 7pm. It costs $5 to attend, and it is family friendly, so parents can bring their "young nerds." Door open at 6:30pm.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
