"I've always been interested in the wilderness. I guess you could call these 'wilderness mysteries'," says Cary J. Griffith, author of Dead Catch, the fourth installment in the Sam Rivers series.
Set in and around the expansive waters of Lake Vermillion, the story stems from the mysterious death of a conservation officer, found tangled in a submerged fishing net. Nearby is a local man, nearly frozen and barely conscious, who claims to remember nothing. Though the story follows Rivers and his investigations, Griffith pivots to various points of view, thus bringing readers up close with the many nefarious goings-on in the area.
When asked about the similarity between the character of Rivers and himself, Griffith affirmed that there are many parallels. The author finds himself in the outdoors most days and recalls a childhood growing up near a stream that led into a forest; a "Huck Finn" existence that sparked a lifetime love of nature.
Dead Catch is available at libraries, bookstores, and online. For more information about the author and his various works, visit Cary J. Griffith's website.
