Ta-Coumba Aiken shares his journey into the arts, from his first childhood art show to his trials and successes as a full-time artist. In honor of Black History Month, Radio Gallery recognizes Aiken as valuable force in the Twin Cities. A leader in community arts, Aiken creates opportunities for us all to feel connected, to see our landscape anew and to remind us of that public art helps us see our interwoven lives.
His work includes a lifetime of painting and public works like: the 2013 World Record Largest Lite-Bright image, beloved murals in Minneapolis and St. Paul, and he his involvement and shows with the Minnesota Artist's Exhibition Program at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Former Program Director, Maija Jenson teaches journalism in the Department of Communication at UMD and was a part of KUMD 2008-2019. She hosted a weekly arts program "Radio Gallery." She shares a lifetime of public radio listening, degrees in journalism and art and 20 years of public radio experience with KFAI, WHA, WSUM and KUMD.
