Radio Gallery 1-4-12: Paul Madsen
Every winter Minnesota festivals celebrate the season with ice and snow carving contests. Although it sounds like kid fun, competitors are often professional artists bringing their finely honed skills to the public in these fun seasonal outdoor displays. This week Duluth is holding an ice-carving competition on Sunday, January 8, 2012 from 10-4 in Canal Park. Chris Swarbrick is the ice engineer who constructed the ice bar and lounge at Little Angies Cantina in Canal Park and will compete on Sunday. Radio Gallery spoke with organizer and Duluth's premier ice-carver, Paul Madsen who assisted Chris in the construction of the ice lounge. He talks about his career in culinary ice carving and about this weekends carving competition.
