Originally from New Jersey, this folk singer/songwriter got his start in the '80s while still in college in Pennsylvania, performing regularly at Godfrey Daniels, a coffee shop in Bethlehem. He's gone on to become a Minnesotan and a world-renowned performer whose music has both humor and heart. We talked with John about the One Song Concerts series he started on YouTube during the pandemic shutdowns, the recent reunion of his college band the Razzy Dazzy Spasm Band (in which Gorka plays banjo), and his plans for a new album tentatively set for early 2025. He also performed three songs, including a new one inspired by the pandemic.
