Forever Home: Want to share the love with your pet? There's money available for that!

©Joanne Eicher

If you've often thought that your cat or dog (or chicken) would be great at cheering people in nursing homes or hospitals, reading with kids in schools or helping college students Pet Away Worries and Stress, maybe you'd like to get them certified through an organization like Therapy Dogs International or Pet Partners.

Thanks to efforts by Dr. Ladona Tornabene, a UMD Education and Human Services assistant professor, and her students, there's scholarship money available for college students in the Northland (not just at UMD) to go through the training with their companion animal.  For more information, contact Pat Castellano at Animal Allies Humane Society.

Buster is a 7 year old male hound/beagle mix. Buster came from another shelter, he didn't have much time before being euthanized. Buster has been a charmer since he arrived. He is affectionate, kind and beautiful. I am so happy he will get a second chance.

Max is making a great recovery from his previously abusive home!

Nanni is a black and white domestic medium hair who is about 14 years old. She came to us from a previous home and is now looking for her new loving home! She is a sweet, affectionate cat looking for a quiet home to relax in. She can be a little timid, but opens up to people when given the chance!

Lolo is a gray adult, male short hair who is 4 years old. He is looking for a loving forever home.

Max is a tricolor Pointer mix who is 1 year old. He came to us as a transfer from a different shelter and is now looking for his new loving home! This sweet guy can be timid at first, but once he gets to know you, he will climb into your lap and give you as many kisses as you'd like! He is a very affectionate, loving pup with tons of energy. He loves to play- especially with squeaky toys, and already knows how to sit, stay, and lay down! He is looking for an owner who will give him plenty of attention and exercise.

Lisa Johnson started her broadcast career anchoring the television news at her high school and spinning country music at KWWK/KOLM Radio in Rochester, Minnesota. She was a reporter and news anchor at KTHI in Fargo, ND (not to mention the host of a children's program called "Lisa's Lane") and a radio reporter and anchor in Moorhead, Bismarck, Wahpeton and Fergus Falls.Since 1991, she has hosted Northland Morning on KUMD. One of the best parts of her job includes "paying it forward" by mentoring upcoming journalists and broadcasters on the student news team that helps produce Northland Morning. She also loves introducing the different people she meets in her job to one another, helping to forge new "community connections" and partnerships.Lisa has amassed a book collection weighing over two tons, and she enjoys reading, photography, volunteering with Animal Allies Humane Society and fantasizing about farmland. She goes to bed at 8pm, long before her daughter, two cats, or three dogs.
