Jacob Mahon

Jacob Mahon wasn't even born when the Homegrown Music Festival started in 1999, but on Saturday night, he and The Salty Dogs demonstrated that the fest in good hands as the next generation takes its place in the local music scene.

The six-piece band already had the large crowd at The Rex whipped up by the time they invited Nick Muska and Lauren Cooper of One Less Guest and Teague Alexy up on stage to end the night, covering Alexy's "Ol' John Doe" before closing with the title track from their latest album Butt Rock. The audience shouted for an encore, and was treated to the celebratory groove of Funkadelic's "Can You Get to That?" that got the whole place moving. Someone in the crowd blew bubbles toward the stage as Mahon did a little teasing dance before taking off his shirt and stage diving into the crowd. It was everything that could be desired to wrap up the last night of the festival.
