Recent days have brought some spectacular aurora to the Northland. With the help of longer nights and mild temps, this time of year generally offers a good opportunity to see the Northern Lights.
However, the big news belongs to the comets. Two comets are meandering across the night sky at the beginning of October.
Comet SWAN can be seen in the southwest sky from October 8th through the 20th starting about an hour and a half after sunset.

Comet Lemmon shows up a little earlier, both by the calendar and by the clock. Lemmon is already on the move in the northeast sky and can be spotted about 2 hours before sunrise. In the case of both SWAN and Lemmon, binoculars are a must.
