If you missed the nearly full moon aurora display last night, tonight will be bursting with more celestial phenomena. This Tuesday offers a clear viewing of the harvest moon and partial lunar eclipse. If you go outside between 9:12pm and 10:17pm, a bit of the moon (less than 4%) will be covered by Earth's shadow.
For astronomy enthusiasts, this Friday kicks off "Celebrate the Night Week", a week that brings awareness to the sky and the preservation of the night sky. There will be events all week hosted by Starry Skies North.
Friday night begins with a telescope viewing party at Barker's Island in Superior, and on Saturday night Fitger's will be hosting an evening of art, stories and science. This event will feature artists and authors, including Bob King's new book, Magnificent Lights. To learn more about the celebration, all events are listed on the Starry Skies North website.
You can hear Astro Bob's Backyard Astronomy every other Tuesday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
