Climate Generation has been sending delegates to COP (Conference of the Parties) since 2009 with the intention of pushing negotiations forward and making connections. "We work primarily with youth across Minnesota," says Sarah Goodspeed. "We support folks who bring climate literacy into the classroom."
But Climate Generation goes beyond Minnesota's borders when it comes to COP; the annual gather of United Nation delegations that focuses on negotiating and addressing climate issues. This year's conference is in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. A delegation of twelve will represent Climate Generation at the conference.
Despite the hope that fuels the conference, Goodspeed notes that it can be a frustrating experience. "The progress that we need is just not happening at the pace that we need it." But not all realism is dismal. Goodspeed and Climate Generation feel that the conference will yield an enhancement of the Paris Agreement and encourage financing for adaptation, particularly for developing countries.
The 27th annual Conference of the Parties takes place from November 6-18, 2022.
