Backyard Almanac: Spectacular September

Larry Weber says that when it comes to weather, there is no normal. But August might have been the acceptation. High temperatures, low temperatures, average temperatures, and precipitation were all remarkably close to "normal."

Looking into September, the temps will drop and there will be plenty to do outside. "Get to Hawk Ridge, take some time," says Weber. "Just watch as the raptors go across." Leaf color change is also starting, making hiking trails all the more alluring.

Be sure to keep an eye on the smaller things too. Interesting insects - including dragonflies, wasps and winged ants - will be active with various tasks over the coming weeks.
